To me, script is the most important thing about a film. Here you will find a number of breakdowns of films into their component parts. The main approach I use is that of Blake Snyder.
Why use Blake?
- Because Blake loved film. Not just art film or 'worthy film' but all films - as long as the script worked. Blake had a way of taking complex theory and breaking it down into everyday language. Putting across an idea is pretty important when it comes to script writing and no one did it better than Blake.
According to Blake films fall into ten genres - Buddy Love, Dude with a Problem, Fool Triumphant, Golden Fleece, Institutionalized, Monster In the House, Out of the Bottle, Rites of Passage, Super Hero and Whydunnit?
Each film here will have an explanation to how it fits into its genre.
